Description
Senegal's new president, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, calls for reforms and efforts to "dispel the misunderstandings" within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) during a visit to the Ivorian city of Abidjan where he held talks with his Ivory Coast counterpart Alassane Ouattara. In January, Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali announced their withdrawal from ECOWAS, which they accuse of being subservient to France and not giving them enough support in the fight against jihadism. "I am convinced that we must continue to act in solidarity within the ECOWAS space, to make the necessary reforms and to work to dispel the misunderstandings that are bound to arise," Faye says in Abidjan.
