A poster near the French embassy in Moscow calls on French soldiers not to "repeat the mistakes of your ancestors". The poster is one of a number claiming to bear a photo of Edgar Puaud, the commander of the Charlemagne Division, a French unit of the Waffen-SS in the service of Nazi Germany which suffered heavy losses fighting against Soviet forces during the Second World War. France does not officially have military personnel assisting or training Ukrainian forces in Ukraine at the moment, but Kyiv said last week it was "in talks" with Paris on the issue. IMAGES
