Description
Georgian university lecturer Gia Japaridze had just finished a meeting with foreign ambassadors urging them to sanction the ruling party over a new "foreign influence" law targeting rights groups when men ambushed him outside his home in Tbilisi. Film producer Guka Rcheulishvili, who took part in rallies against the law, was attacked by riot police for peacefully defending another protester. Both men say the beatings are part of a targeted campaign designed to intimidate those critical of the government amid weeks of violence and threats since the law was introduced. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
