Description
For US pilot Kevin Doremus, flying through the eye of a storm is "like riding an old wooden roller coaster through a car wash." Every year, "hurricane hunters" from the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) fly across the Atlantic to improve forecasters' live predictions of the paths and intensity of looming hurricanes. With the help of two "P-3" aircraft equipped with radars, these teams will be even more crucial this year, as the hurricane season - from the beginning of June to the end of November in the United States - is expected to be "above-normal," with up to seven category 3 hurricanes or more in the North Atlantic.
