Six years after the killing of outspoken Rio de Janeiro city councilwoman Marielle Franco, Brazil's Federal Supreme Court (STF) begins the trial of the five suspects accused of involvement in the drive-by shooting that killed both her and her driver. Two of the alleged masterminds -- brothers Domingos and Chiquinho Brazao -- are veterans of Rio's political scene whom a 500-page federal police investigation linked directly to a militia group that terrorizes Rio's working-class neighborhoods with the complicity of police officers and high-ranking political figures.
