Description
Iris Mozalar, a 24-year-old trans woman and LGBTI+ rights activist living in Istanbul, shares her journey of self-acceptance and the challenges she faced. “I started the process of accepting my identity when I moved to Istanbul,” after she left the family home in Mersin, in southeast Turke, to study Urban Planning in Mimar Sinan University. Iris vividly recalls the moment she stood naked in front of a mirror when she was an 18-year-old freshman and told herself: “I am a woman.” However, this journey was not without obstacles. “The gender affirmation process is incredibly difficult in Turkey due to bureaucratic hurdles,” she explains.
