Description
At Hindu preacher Bhole Baba's recent rally in northern Uttar Pradesh state, a stampede occurred, resulting in the deaths of at least 121 people. Many were crushed, trampled, or suffocated in India's deadliest tragedy of this kind in over a decade.
"Instead of improving life, the god took away my son," says 30-year-old Sudha, a devotee who attended the gathering, referring to the preacher. She took her youngest son Yuvansh, aged four, with her to the gathering. The boy died under a pile of bodies after organisers lost control of the vastly overcrowded site.
