Airlines, banks, TV channels and other business across the globe are scrambling to deal with one of the biggest IT crashes in recent years, caused by an update to an antivirus program. Speaking to AFP from a security conference in Bristol, Professor of Security Engineering at University College London Steven Murdoch explains that it is a “coincidence” that problems affecting Microsoft Cloud services and CrowdStrike are happening at the same time, adding that each PC will need to be fixed individually meaning that “the companies that have invested in cost saving technologies are probably going to be the ones that are most badly affected”.
