Description
The Mesalands Community College in Tucumcari, New Mexico, is one of the very few in the United States to have its own 300-foot-tall wind turbine on-site, to train technicians and repairers. Fearless instructors and students climb daily the 260-step ladder to practice for a job that’s not for the faint of heart. "You’ve gotta be fit" and "you can’t really be deathly afraid of heights," says technician instructor Terrill Stowe. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
