Description
Residents from the Adjame village in Ivory Coast's main city Abidjan dig through the rubble for their belongings as excavators continue to demolish homes to make way for a new road.
"It's a catastrophe," says Atibo Tajou, a resident of the popular Adjame neighborhood in Abidjan. "I don't know if they came to destroy or to rob us. So that's it, we are in desolation. It's not okay. It's not okay," adds his neighbour Rosine Adou.
Adamje is one of many traditional villages in the city of six million people where "evictions" have increased since February in poorer districts, especially those prone to flooding. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
