Description
From his boat, Kazakh fisherman Alexei Grebennikov laments the deterioration of the Balkhash, Central Asia's second biggest lake endangered by pollution and climate change. "There are fewer and fewer fish, it's catastrophic... the lake is silting up," warns Grebennikov. Despite being sanctioned for non-compliance with environmental standards, Kazakhstan's largest copper producer Kazakhmys denies being the main polluter of the Balkhash and said it would renew its equipment to reduce pollution.
