A wildfire rages in the Penteli suburb of Athens, where, surrounded by thick grey smoke, police urge people to move away and residents work to try and stop the flames advancing on their homes. On Monday, a 30-kilometre line of fires was threatening the Greek capital, spurred on by intense heat and strong winds, and forcing the evacuation of the nearby town of Marathon.
