Description
A researcher at the Democratic Republic of the Congo's national biomedical research institute discusses the causes of the resurgence of mpox after the World Health Organization declared the surge in Africa a public health emergency of international concern -- the highest alarm it can sound. "Vaccination against smallpox has been stopped since practically the end of the 1970s [...] which means that all these people who were born, the entire population after 1980, is a population that has not been vaccinated against smallpox," Placide Mbala, researcher at the national biomedical research institute, says.
