Description
Droughts are threatening apple and grape harvests in Syria's northeastern Hasakeh province along the area's lifeline Khabour river. Dry spells have heaped more misery on farmers already struggling to make ends meet after 13 years of war, the growing effects of climate change and a gruelling economic crisis that has triggered long power cuts and fuel shortages. "We used to have bumper crops, but now everything has ended. There is no fuel and the Khabour river has dried up," laments Abdelbaki Mohammed Amin who has been a farmer for 40 years.
