‘The fire was very strong’, said Ahmad Turkman in Zababdeh, a small town to the south-east of Jenin, as he watched firemen and the Palestinian Red Crescent put out the blaze in the wreckage of a car destroyed during a large-scale Israeli army operation in the occupied West Bank. Nearby, residents gather in front of a bullet-riddled house, looking at the bullet holes and pools of blood. The raids on several towns and refugee camps were launched as violence raged on in the war-battered Gaza Strip, the besieged Palestinian territory separated from the West Bank by Israel.
