The parish enclosures of Finistère, in France's Brittany, remain largely unknown to the general public. Their candidacy for Unesco World Heritage status should enable them to shake off this indifference. 'I didn't know about them at all,' says one visitor, who came to see the parish enclosure at Guimiliau. 'Frankly, I wasn't expecting anything so beautiful. I'm absolutely astonished,' she continues.
