Around 1,200 hectares were affected after a fire began outside Brasilia's National Park and then spread into the protected area. Dozens of firefighters, the military and a special rapid response team were sent to control it, but the fire is expected to continue burning through Sunday night. Forest fires have been raging for several weeks in Brazil, particularly in the Amazon rainforest in the north, and in the large area known as the Pantanal, bringing a heavy layer of smoke to many cities and even reaching neighbouring countries.
