Description
As thousands take to the streets to mark the tenth anniversary of the disappearance of 43 students from a rural university in the southern state of Guerrero that has shaken Mexico, the families of the students are hoping that the new president-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum, who will take office on October 1, will reopen the case "in a comprehensive manner.
The case of the Ayotzinapa teachers' college students, who are believed to have been massacred, is considered one of the worst human rights atrocities in Mexico, where a spiral of drug-related violence has left more than 100,000 people missing. "These 10 years represent impunity, injustice, lack of commitment, lack of seriousness, and lack of significant progress in this investigation," says the father of one of the missing students.
