Description
Lee Soo-kum used to spend her days in a dull routine – wake up, eat, sleep, and repeat. But that all changed when she joined a program that links local artists with elderly care homes where they run drawing, painting and craft workshops.
"My life is more enriched", Lee, a 77-year-old retired factory worker, tells AFP. "I am no longer simply sitting here waiting to eat, waiting to sleep, and waiting to wake up."
The Creative Ageing Program organised by the Hong Kong Jockey Club aims to combat elderly loneliness in the city, as Hong Kong is forecast to become the world’s oldest city by 2050, according to the United Nations, with the population of people aged 65 and older expected to reach 40.6 percent.
