Description
Residents of the predominantly Palestinian city of Nazareth, in northern Israel, lament absence of tourists. The landmark church, market and restaurants in the city, which has biblical history and thrives on Christian pilgrims, look deserted almost one year since the start of the Gaza war. "It's so bad as everywhere, but definitely in the last few weeks it started to be very, very dangerous," says a tour guide. Israel's war in Gaza that began after the Hamas attack of October 7 has plunged the country's tourism industry into a fresh crisis, just when it had started to crawl out of the Covid-19 pandemic.
