Description
Dried-up stones lie on the ground where the water from a river used to flow. Inside people's homes low-pressure water flows into residents' sinks in the city of Cuenca, a rural region of Ecuador where citizens say they have been on water rationing for more than 70 days. The South American country has been hit by its worst drought in six decades, affecting farmers as their crops are spoiled. "We are really screwed because we can't grow anything," says 57-year-old farmer Maria Mercedes Morocho Lojano. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
