Description
Ivory Coast, the world's leading producer of cocoa, announces that it is increasing the purchase price it pays farmers for the commodity crop used to make chocolate by 20 percent, to set it at a new rate of 1,800 CFA francs (2.7 euros) per kilo, a record amount amidst high prices globally for cocoa. Some welcomed the move. Others said they wanted more. "We were expecting a price of 2,000 which would allow us to look after our children, since we have a lot of children and we have to send them to school," says Kouadio Gadou N'Da, a cocoa farmer.
