Description
Two euros a kilo for aubergines, compared with four euros for the same vegetables at a market in Pointe-à-Pitre. In Steve Salim's ‘Guadeloupe Forever’ shop, the price of a basket of several kilos of fresh produce rarely exceeds €20. The reason: this producer based in Le Moule (Guadeloupe) has set up a short supply chain, from the soil to the plate. "Our main aim is to feed the people of Guadeloupe with what we produce, to show that we can eat what's in season (...) and to work towards the self-sufficiency in food that we all dream of," says the Guadeloupean farmer.
