Description
Devastated by a year of war, the Gaza Strip is showing off some of its archaeological heritage, with an exhibition of dozens of artefacts from its soil in Geneva, Switzerland. Amphora, statuette, funerary stele, jar, oil lamp, figurine... the new ‘Heritage at Risk’ exhibition at the Geneva Museum of Art and History (MAH) presents 44 objects from Gaza soil, owned by the Palestinian Authority, and with them ‘part of the soul of Gaza’, alongside dozens of other artefacts from Sudan, Syria and Libya. ‘The idea was also to show the diversity of this culture, the richness of the Gaza Strip,’ explains the exhibition curator. ‘We have objects dating from the Bronze Age, around 3000 BC, right up to the Ottoman period, so up to the 19th century,’ she adds.
