Description
In the town of Barva, located in the canton of Heredia, Costa Rica, people celebrate traditional festivities featuring masks and giants, which are national symbols of Costa Rican culture. These celebrations, held over three days, aim to preserve local beliefs and traditions, rather than embracing Halloween, which is not part of Costa Rican culture. During the festivities, participants enjoy exhibitions and dance through the streets and in the central park. This tradition has been ongoing for more than 100 years, and both young people and adults eagerly anticipate the chance to dance with masks made of paper and fiberglass. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
