Description
"It's not saying much," says Michai Robertson, lead COP29 negotiator for the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), addressing the G20's statement on climate finance. "I don't know if it's sending that much hope to this process," he adds, speaking to the press at the UN climate conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, where the statement from the world's richest 20 economies has had mixed reactions. Much of the COP29 negotiation has centred on the need for trillions of dollars for poorer nations affected by climate change, but common ground has been hard to come by. Robertson also talks about reported EU discussions on an annual $200-300 billion dollar commitment, the US potentially leaving the Paris Agreement, and loss and damage funding for nations at the forefront of climate change.
