Description
An alleged Dublin gangland figure known as "The Monk" attracts a media scrum at the city's vote count centre, where he came close to being elected to the Irish parliament weeks after he was arrested in Spain for alleged money laundering. Gerry Hutch, 61, registered his candidacy for Ireland's election - giving his profession as "consultant" - after he was released on bail. Hutch, dubbed "The Monk" by the media due to his apparently low-profile lifestyle, missed out on a parliamentary seat by less than 700 votes. After spending months in prison he was found not guilty of the murder of a rival Dublin gang member in the Irish capital in 2016. IMAGES
