Description
At a conservation center in Turmero, Venezuela, Jeshua Nieves carefully weighs a mixture of seeds to feed her "feathered children," as she calls the red siskin, an iconic and critically endangered bird that conservationists are working to save. The Red Siskin Conservation Center, located at the Leslie Pantin Zoo in Aragua state, celebrates the birth of 47 chicks—the largest number since 2022, when the first birds of the program were born. This initiative aims to protect the small, bright red-plumed bird, deeply embedded in Venezuelan culture. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES ARRANGED IN SEQUENCES
