Opposition fighters displaced in 2016 by the war with the forces of Bashar al-Assad return to their hometown of Daraya in the Damascus countryside. "It's an undescribable joy - after 14 years of being away from our family and our country [city], we're coming back with our head high," says a rebel fighter. Assad's government fell 11 days after the rebels began a surprise advance, more than 13 years after Assad's crackdown on anti-government protests ignited Syria's civil war -- which had become largely dormant until the rebel push.
