Description
From black eyes to a broken nose, anthropologist Irakli Pipia and journalist Aleksandre Keshelashvili still bear the marks of their recent arrests by the Georgian police. Their injuries were sustained an an anti-government demonstration, as crowds protested against a disputed election and the decision to shelve EU accession talks. The two are among many who say they have been beaten in a wave of alleged police violence that has sparked outrage at home as well as international condemnation. "Usually beating happens to the face," Pipia says, "I think the goal here was to be as visually damaging as possible." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
