Description
Many residents of a coastal Gambian fishing village called Ghana Town are stuck in a legal limbo. Though they were born in, grew up in and now live in The Gambia, they have been unable to get citizenship because their parents are from Ghana. This lack of documentation affects their ability to access healthcare, formal employment or indeed to travel. "For me in The Gambia here, we recognise ourselves as Gambians but Gambians don’t recognise us as Gambians," says Paul Techy, a resident of the village. "They said even you are a Ghanian born in the Gambia, you are still a foreigner." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
