Description
Nearly 1,100 boxes of archives containing 2,300 documents from Cameroon's years under French rule have been opened in Yaounde as part of a report on colonisation, historian Lancelot Arzel tells a research commission meeting with President Paul Biya. The commission now hopes to promote understanding of French colonialism and its role in "repression" between 1945 and 1971, a bloody part of Cameroon's history that has long remained taboo since the country's independence.
