Description
In a village nestled in the mountains of northeastern Algeria, locals and visitors gather to celebrate Tamechrit, a centuries-old Berber tradition rooted in sharing. "We work to keep the custom of Tamechrit alive, which is celebrated on occasions such as Yennayer, the birth of the Prophet Mohammed, the month of Ramadan and also the commemoration of Ashura. It's a time when the villagers come together," explains participant Dahmane Barbacha as he cuts up meat to be later distributed equally among families. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
