The mayor of Béziers, Robert Ménard, rejected a "guilty plea" proposed by the prosecutor of Montpellier for refusing to celebrate the marriage between a Frenchwoman and an Algerian man who was in an irregular immigration situation and subject to an obligation to leave the country, he stated following his summons. Ménard was summoned as part of a procedure for appearance on prior admission of guilt (CRPC) to be informed of the penalty proposed by the prosecution.
