Description
The President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Felix Tshisekedi, visits and holds talks with his Angolan counterpart, Joao Lourenco, to review the situation in eastern DR Congo, after M23 fighters and Rwandan troops took the regional capital of South Kivu, Bukavu, over the weekend, following their seizure of another regional capital, Goma, last month. Over the past few years, Joao Lourenço has established himself as one of the main mediators in the crisis, and Angola's accession to the rotating presidency of the African Union makes the country an important player in the resolution of the conflict. "It was therefore necessary to see what the next steps would be in order to find solutions to this situation which everyone knows to be tense and worrying for the continent, and even more so for those who are responsible not only for the situation itself, but also for the fate of our organisation, which is the African Union, presided over by the President of the Republic," says the Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tete Antonio.
