Description
On barren land outside Pakistan's Chamkanni, beekeeper Gul Badshah watches helplessly as bees appear and disappear from dozens of boxes on a fruitless search for flowers.
The bees of Pakistan's 27,000 beekeepers once had diverse foliage fed by reliable rainfall, offering a rich source of nectar. But the country's honey production has dropped as climate change and pollution threaten the industry.
"Our honeybees are dying at an alarming rate... this is due to diseases, drought, and the lack of rainfall. When the bees leave the hive, they find neither flowers nor food outside," Badshah tells AFP. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
