His self-described "naive" style of paintings, including works inspired by street children, have made Ivorian artist Aboudia one of the world's bestselling artists, and this despite the resistance and hardships along the way. "When I was a teenager I wanted to paint but my father didn't want me to," says Aboudia, remembering how the profession was a synonym for "loser" then. Today the painter, whose full name is Abdoulaye Diarrassouba, is inspiring a whole new generation of Ivorian painters to follow their own creative path.
