Description
As soon as Raisa walks out of her house in eastern Ukraine, she is quickly joined by a pack of hungry dogs whose barking fails to drown out the sound of artillery. "I get up every day, make food for the animals, then go to work," she says, roaming the ruined streets with a plastic bag full of raw chicken for the stray animals. In the streets of Bilytske, which had a population of 8,000 people before the war, there are mainly soldiers and pensioners who refuse to leave. Father Ivan says most of his parishioners have fled, and only "the most solid" have stayed. He compares his church to Noah's Ark. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES ARRANGED IN SEQUENCES
