Description
The building housing a firehouse in Central New York state collapsed over the weekend following what meteorologists predicted to be the coldest polar vortex event of the season.
Security footage showed the moment the Barneveld Fire Department building came down.
According to the website Syracuse.com, firefighters had been working to remove snow off the roof minutes before the building collapsed Saturday, Feb. 22. No one was injured.
The incident comes just days after the National Weather Service warned of “life-threatening cold” in parts of the U.S.
Extreme cold warnings were issued for an 11-state swath of the country stretching from the Canadian border to Oklahoma and central Texas, where the Arctic front was expected to bring near-record cold temperatures and wind chills in the single digits by midweek.
