Relatives of Venezuelan migrants deported by the administration of US President Donald Trump to a maximum security prison in El Salvador gathered in Barquisimeto, a city west of Caracas, to demand their repatriation to Venezuela.
Michel Olivera, sister of Maikel Rojas Olivera, who is currently detained in El Salvador, says they were eagerly awaiting the return of her brother on Saturday March 15 and on Sunday March 16 they woke up to the news he had been sent to El Salvador.
On March 16, 238 Venezuelans were transferred from the United States to the Terrorism Confinement Center (Cecot), a giant prison inaugurated in January 2023 by the government of Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele to house gang members. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
