San Diego police are investigating a double shooting near Little Italy and downtown that left two dead and an officer in the hospital. Officers said they received a call of a shooting at 8:42 a.m. in the area of Ash Street and Union Street. They found two people shot and dead. Less than an hour after the shooting, at approximately 9:30 a.m., officers from the Harbor Patrol engaged the suspected shooter in Little Italy. A shootout ensued, injuring one officer and injuring the suspect as well. San Diego Police are now investigating both shootings. The status of the injured Harbor Patrol Officer or the suspect has not yet been released. San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl said there is no current threat to public safety in the area.
