An officer with the San Diego Police Department is dead and another is in critical condition after a pursuit ended in a crash. The deadly crash happened just after 11:30 p.m. Monday in the 5200 block of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard. According to SDPD Chief Scott Wahl, an officer tried to stop a speeding car headed down Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, but the driver refused to pull over. Due to the high rate of speed, a supervisor terminated the chase. However, everything unfolded quickly. Two officers responding to that initial call of a speeding car ultimately collided with the suspect's vehicle. After the crash, the police cruiser was engulfed in flames. One officer died and the other was critically injured and is in the intensive care unit. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. There were two other vehicles involved in the crash.
