An officer with the San Diego Police Department is dead and another is injured after a pursuit crash. The deadly crash happened just after 11:30 Monday night in the 5200 block of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard. There were two officers in the vehicle and the second officer was transported to an area hospital, according to SDPD. A vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed down Clairemont Mesa Boulevard. Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver didn’t stop. Due to the high rate of speed, officers terminated the chase, San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl said during an update he gave just after 6:30 a.m. Monday. The suspect fled and ultimately collided with the police vehicle. After the crash, the police cruiser was engulfed in flames. One officer died and the other was critically injured and is in the intensive care unit. The driver of the suspect vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
