The city of San Diego wants input from residents as it considers charging single-family homeowners for trash pick-up. A series of public meetings continues. "The city is evaluating different options for waste and collection and inviting insights from the public on what they like about their current service and what they would like to see in potential new service enhancements," said Jeremy Bauer, Assistant Director for the city's Environmental Services Department. "This phase is all about listening." In 2022, voters passed Measure B, which allows the city to start charging single-family homes for trash services. "Should the city decide to pursue a fee for this service, it may free up general fund dollars, which are currently used to provide funding for our services," said Bauer. "Any freed up dollars, the city council working with the mayor's office, would determine how those freed up dollars would be spent."
