The jury has reached a verdict in the trial against Jesse Alvarez who is accused of first-degree murder in the death of Mario Fierro, a Cathedral Catholic High School teacher. The jury found Alvarez guilty of murder in the first degree. Jurors also found true a special circumstance allegation of lying in wait. Alvarez faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole for the Feb. 1, 2021, death of Mario Fierro, who was shot multiple times outside his home as he was preparing to go to work.
