062667 MARINES RETURN
The Military Sea Transport Barrett tied up at the Navy Pier at the foot of Broadway yesterday morning with some 800 mariners from the Western Pacific.
These were men who had finished their tour of duty in or near the war zone. Now they were back home for re-assignment.
Some of the mariners would be processed for immediate leave with family or friends. Others would be discharged from the service, having fulfilled their military obligation to their country.
Some of the mariners would have some free time at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot while awaiting new duty assignments.
Others arrived here wondering what their new duty assignment might be.
But for the moment, thoughts of these returning veterans were no doubt centered on friendly faces or to the nearest telephone and a call home.
Officials here say everything is arranged to expedite processing returnees so they can be homeward bound by today.
