Description
Clairemont High School freshman in the Health and Medical Sciences Academy learned how different substances impact people and those around them. Working in teams, students researched a substance like fentanyl, oxycodone, alcohol, and marijuana. They created interactive websites and informational cards like you’d see in a doctor’s office or clinic.
Wednesday they showed their websites to their peers and parents at a Town Hall. It was no old-school science fair either. They did have tabletop displays but also digital content. Each team created a website, with an interactive page that shows how drugs are taken and how they affect the user’s body.
Young people are bombarded with information about opioids, fentanyl, the overdose epidemic and substance abuse. The class helped them understand what information is correct, and what’s just noise. The Health and Medical Sciences Academy teaches students to do research, find accurate information, and effectively share what they’ve learned.
“I know somebody personally who is addicted to fentanyl right now," said student Zoe Baskerville.
