Description
Families call on harsher penalties for dealers who dole out deadly doses of fentanyl.
CBS 8 was given the following statement Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego):
“The fentanyl crisis is tragic and pervasive, and my colleagues and I are committed to finding solutions. We have enacted several measures in the budget to support efforts to address this crisis, and provided more tools to law enforcement to coordinate efforts, like drug interdiction, but more work needs to be done. There are several bills related to this critical issue moving through the Legislature, and we also recently created a workgroup of Senators, including Senator Umberg, to work on policy related to this and to helping SB 44 move forward in the legislative process. These bills deserve careful consideration, and continued discussion between members, constituents, and all stakeholders will remain key as we work on this in the months ahead.”
