Description
Clinical Nutritionist, Tara Coleman talked about healthy habits she recommends and also some diets you should avoid.
Start Each Day with 16 oz. of Water
Water is the foundation of every single process in our bodies. So all the vitamins, expensive skin care, probiotics, chiropractic, etc. will not be nearly as effective if you are dehydrated. The best way to stay hydrated is to front load your day by starting your morning with 16 oz. of water when you first wake up.
Protein Every Time You Eat
We used to think that low carb diets were effective because of the lack of carbs, now we know it is the addition of protein.
Protein keeps us full longer and stabilizes our blood sugar, which is great for mood, concentration & weight loss.
Vegetables First
Recent studies have shown that the order in which you eat food can have a dramatic impact on how your body handles it and if it stores it as fat. Starting your meal with vegetables and then moving to the protein and carbohydrates will help reduce the impact on blood sugar and prevent fat storage.
Add Vinegar
Vinegar before a meal slows down the breakdown of carbohydrates which creates less of an insulin and fat storage response. A simple way to do this is to start each meal (especially the higher carb ones) with a green salad and vinaigrette dressing. This can be easily done at any restaurant or even at home and can have a significant impact on your insulin sensitivity.
How to Stay on Track
· Have a positive association with the behavior
· Be held accountable
· Be successful
One of the easiest and most successful ways to do this is through habit tracking. Pick no more than 3 behaviors per month and each day that you do them, check it off on your calendar, on a white board or download a free app on your phone like Streak or Habit Tracker.
