Description
Dozer Day is a community event at the Washington State Fairgrounds on May 18 and 19 that brings families and the construction industry together.
“Kids actually get to operate real heavy equipment, and they get to do hands-on activities that are related to the construction industry,” said Natasha Gunia, Dozer Day events manager.
The equipment kids can operate includes excavators and dozers, with guidance from a licensed operator. The goal is to educate kids starting at a young age about the viable career paths in construction.
“It really gets the gears going and gets them excited about the construction industry,” Gunia said.
There are many careers in construction that are often overlooked, including project management, equipment operation, engineering and ownership. This event shows kids job choices that can set them up for a successful future.
“I think construction is an essential industry for us in terms of building our communities,” said Liz Truong, CEO of the National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA).
Dozer Day is led by a large team of volunteers directly from the construction industry, including more than 125 contractors and equipment providers that donate employee time and equipment.
“It’s all volunteer time, dollars, hours, laborers and the trades also get involved to help us put on this event,” Truong said.
You’ll enter Seattle Dozer Day through the entrance at the Green Gate off Fairview Drive at the Washington State Fairgrounds in Puyallup. The event is open Saturday, May 18 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., with the last entry at 2 p.m., and Sunday, May 19 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., with the last entry at 1 p.m.
